As part of the extensive modernisation work on the Olympic Tower in Munich, it was also necessary to renovate the existing sewage pipes. Stingl GmbH took on this challenging task and opted for the trenchless renovation method using products from BRAWO® SYSTEMS.
Technical implementation and challenges
A total of around 230 metres of pipes with nominal diameters between DN 100 and DN 250 were rehabilitated. The lengths of the individual sections ranged from 4 to 40 metres. Various versions of BRAWOLINER® were used for the renovation: BRAWOLINER® 3D DN100-150, BRAWOLINER® 3D DN150-225 and the classic BRAWOLINER® DN250. Curing was carried out using hot water and steam.
The renovation presented the team with particular logistical and technical challenges. Some of the affected pipes beneath the atrium in the tower had complex branches. In addition, coordination with the numerous other trades working on the Olympic Tower at the same time had to run smoothly. A tight schedule had to be adhered to, as the tower was closed to visitors during the modernisation work – delays would have been unacceptable.
Special construction site conditions
The renovation work took place both in the main building (atrium) and in parts of the outdoor area. In total, the entire Olympic Tower – including the revolving restaurant and mobile communications technology – will be stripped back to its foundations and comprehensively modernised within two years. In this environment, trenchless renovation was the ideal solution: it allowed for quick and clean implementation without holding up or hindering the other trades involved for too long.
Advantages of the system used
The choice fell on BRAWOLINER® from BRAWO® SYSTEMS – a product that stands out thanks to its exceptional flexibility. BRAWO® SYSTEMS is the only company to produce seamless textile liners for the rehabilitation of even the smallest nominal diameters. Thanks to a special loop construction, BRAWOLINER® can easily rehabilitate bends of up to 90° and up to two dimensional changes in one go. BRAWOLINER® 3D is particularly suitable for sections with multiple nominal diameter changes.
With a service life of over 50 years, BRAWOLINER® offers a sustainable, economical and environmentally friendly alternative to open construction.
Conclusion
The decision to use the trenchless rehabilitation method with BRAWOLINER® proved to be the best choice. Not only was the construction time significantly reduced, but smooth coordination with other trades was also ensured. This avoided additional costs and delays.
Nico Kirch from the contractor Stingl sums it up:
‘A reliable and proven system that can be used to professionally rehabilitate even complicated drainage systems!’
